The PV plant is a cooperation project between Carrières Feidt SA and SUDenergie. It is located on their production hall in the Ernzen quarry. Both companies want to take responsibility for the energy transition in the country. Carrières Feidt is committed to making its electricity consumption climate-neutral, while SUDenergie is determined to increase the share of renewable energy.
It all started when SUDenergie contacted Carrières Feidt at the end of 2019 to support the company on its path towards climate neutrality. It was clear from the start that solar power would be a key pillar in achieving this goal, as a third of the annual consumption of 700,000 kWh should be covered by solar energy. Therefore, the partners decided to set up a solar plant as a first cooperation project.
During the following months, a suitable location was sought for the project: in the end, the partners' choice fell on the production hall in Ernzen, which, with its roof area of 2,340 m2, offers space for 882 solar cells.
The installation work was completed in July 2021, and since August the system has been feeding green electricity into the Luxembourg grid with an installed output of 313 kWp. The output enables a production of 281,700 kWh per year, which corresponds to the electricity needs of around 80 households.
According to our cooperation model, Carrières Feidt provides us with the roof space on a lease basis, while we are responsible for the development, financing and construction of the solar plant, as well as its monitoring and maintenance since its commissioning.
Carrières Feidt SA, founded in 1946, is one of the leading producers of natural stone in Luxembourg. The company has quarries at a total of seven locations, six of them in the Grand Duchy and one in Germany, and has 130 employees. In addition, Carrières Feidt is active in the processing of natural stone for a wide variety of applications.
